Paltech Awarded “I am Moving, I am Learning” (IMIL) Contract with the Office of Head Start (OHS)

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families (ACF) has selected Paltech to support the Office of Head Start’s “I am Moving, I am Learning” (IMIL) training initiative with Head Start grantees. The award-winning IMIL approach encourages fitness and healthy food choices among children and families in Head Start. The importance of such efforts is underscored by data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicating that 10 percent of 2- to 5-year-olds were obese in 2007-2008.

Paltech will support OHS in the planning, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of 31 IMIL trainings in 2011. Approximately 1,800 Head Start staff from around the country will take part in these 3½ day trainings. Staff will learn how to weave moderate to vigorous physical activities into the curriculum, raise the quality of movement activities, and work with children and parents in making healthy food choices every day.

Last year, Paltech assisted OHS in a similar task, training more than 2,200 Head Start program staff in the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS), an instrument developed by the University of Virginia for evaluating and promoting the quality of preschool classrooms.
